Dr Rohit K Dasgupta

I am a Senior Lecturer in Cultural Industries at the University of Glasgow. Prior to this I was Senior Lecturer in Global Communication and Development at Loughborough University where I remain as Visiting Fellow at the Institute for Media and Creative Industries. I am also a Senior Visiting Fellow in the Department of Sociology at the London School of Economics. I was also a Visiting Faculty Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania and Fordham University.
As an ethnographer my work cuts across several disciplines with particular interests in communication and social change, cultural industries, protest culture, queer politics and South Asia.I am currently working on several projects on queer migration, media and nation in India, COVID assemblages and India's cultural industries.

 

I am also currently a Labour and Cooperative Party Councillor in the London Borough of Newham. I was first elected in 2018 and re-elected in 2022. I served as Commissioner for Social Integration and Equalities from 2019 until 2022. I was appointed Deputy Cabinet Member for Social Justice and Culture in 2023. I was the Labour Party parliamentary candidate for East Hampshire in 2017 and also a Labour Party MEP Candidate for South East England in 2019.
